This has come up a few times and here is my take on it.
It’s important to recognize that mental health is sometimes a very personal matter. For instance, I’ve been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and a few other things. I’m sure I’m not the first person to have these diagnoses, but I am the first one to talk about them. They may not be the first diagnoses, but they are a part of my life.
These diagnoses are often linked to the way someone is feeling. For example, a person who is feeling suicidal due to an inability to speak clearly or is afraid of being alone might feel depressed. Or someone who is experiencing symptoms of chronic pain might feel like its affecting their mental well-being. When you think about it, it makes sense.
These are all things that can occur when we are feeling down and we can’t talk about it. Sometimes we can’t talk about our feelings because we are hiding them away. When we are depressed, our thoughts are often kept to ourselves, so we don’t know what’s going on inside of us. This can lead to things like obsessive behaviors like obsessively checking our phone or obsessively checking our social media feeds.
I know this is a personal bias, but I do feel that depression is a huge issue on the internet. We are constantly being told to get up and work, and we are forced to work to make money. We are also told that if we arent able to get off our asses and work, that there is a certain amount of mental anguish that we are going to be placed through the system. Its not a pleasant feeling, but its a necessity.
Well, I know you’re tired of hearing about it, but if you’re not on Facebook, you’re missing out. I’d love to be on Facebook and hear about so many of you. The most recent post I wrote about my depression is from someone who told me about some of the friends I have. They have been there to talk when I was down, and they are the ones that have stayed with me when I was hurting.
So, I know that there have been plenty of posts on the subject that have touched on the issue of mental health, but this one stands out because it’s from someone who is a very active member of our community. Not everyone is on Facebook, so this post is a plea for others to be more open about their mental health and mental health support services, and to share their own stories.
To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my own mental health in a public forum, but I’ve certainly posted on it. It’s a hot topic right now. But I’m not going as far as saying that I have been in a hospital, or even a psychiatric ward, but I have been in a lot of different types of facilities – all of which have provided me with a place to heal and recover from a variety of issues.
At the same time, I think it would be a mistake to assume that I would have only gone to mental health facilities. It’s always possible to go to a different facility to get more access to treatment and help. I have had many different types of mental health facilities, and it’s never been a good experience, but I have not yet made it to a facility that would force me to enter a locked ward, or even restrain me.
