For people’s well-being, housing has a significant role to play. It leads to physical health, keeps mental health in check, and influences education, security, and employment outcomes. However, even today, a critical issue is concerned with housing challenges and the need to create affordable homes for the general population. Non-fulfillment of this requirement has resulted in an affordable housing shortage. Housing issues in a nation are also likely to become a social problem while also facing other social challenges. 

Considering these situations, affordable housing has disturbingly also affected the functional and structural aspects of a nation. Keeping in mind the growing gap between the supply and demand of affordable housing, this issue has also become a restriction for the working class as the middle-income group; contrarily, it was an issue that affected those from low-income groups. 

Thus, as affordable housing reaches a larger group of people, it requires necessary and immediate action. Housing affordability needs to be a greater focus for every society, and this problem has become controversial in consideration of the housing market. 

Are Government policies creating an affordable housing crisis for the workforce?

• To consider this question, housing policies need to get highlighted. Even though housing regulations and procedures have evolved recently regarding the housing developmental projects, still a lot is left. Most housing policies got aimed at low-income groups only. At the same time, the workforce and the middle-income groups do not have access to such housing scheme policies despite the challenges of having access to affordable housing.

• Essentially, the focus is on low-income groups and the need to provide affordable homes in convenient locations with conductive environments. However, the working class is often not covered in housing aid programs because they get trapped at the middle-income level, declares Maxwell Drever. Affordable housing for the workforce is becoming an increasing need for those whose incomes are not qualified for housing subsidies and cannot afford the market-housing rate.

• Research shows that a workforce is a large group stuck within the loop of affordable housing problems. The crew is left to deal with the issue of accessing affordable housing on their own without much support. One of the significant challenges remains to help the working class access affordable homes that are at par with their needs and requirements. The affordable housing crisis is an ongoing issue and affects many people. The widening gap between demand and supply has started affecting a large population. Housing market rates also keep increasing due to shortage, while housing loans have become restrictive for most. Hence, the working class takes the brunt of the problem at the bottom of the issue. However, with careful evaluation, promoting livelihood and reducing its consequences can be a beneficial output. Subsidies solely aimed at the workforce and housing projects for the working class can act as solutions to this pressing issue.
